Children Vision Assesment

Childrens Vision Assesment

At eyeclarity we specialise in children's vision. 1 in 5 children suffer from an undetected vision problem. It is important for children to undergo a regular eye examination in order for vision defects and eye disease to be detected in the early stages. Since children grow and change rapidly so does their vision and eye health. This is why all children need a regular eye examination.

At eyeclarity, children undergo an extensive eye health and vision assessment tailored to their age and capabilities. It includes:

  • Vision assessment
  • Eye Health assessment & evaluation
  • Eye co-ordination
  • Colour Vision
  • Depth Perception
  • Other tests

Signs & Symptoms

In many cases there may not be any obvious symptoms and only an extensive eye examination can determine the status of your child's eyes.
It is important that any vision or eye health problems are detected early to assist with normal visual development.
Common symptoms that could indicate your child may be experiencing problems with their sight are:

Sitting too close to the television
Poor concentration span
Holding a book too close to their face when reading
Skips lines or words whilst reading
Rubbing eyes
Red eyes

How Often Should Children Be Examined?

Your Child's first eye examination should be between 6-12 months and before they start school. Then every 12 months for school age children. As children grow and change so quickly they all need a regular eye examination. Since 80% of a Childs learning is visual then anything which affects their vision will also affect their normal development. Your eyeclarity Optometrist will be able to further advise you on the best course of action fo your child's eye health.
