7 Tips For Summer Sunglasses

Posted by

Summer is here and with a bang. Get ready to experience that summer fun, being outdoors, beaches, swimming, bbq’s and hanging out! But don’t forget that you need to wear appropriate sunglasses for the sun!

Why is this so important?

Summer in Australia means that UV radiation intensity peaks and that means protection against UV skin and eye damage is a must. Just like UV damage to skin can sunburn and cancer, UV damage to eye tissues can also be extremely harmful. UV rays radiate from the sun and bounce off of the Earth’s surface, such as the ocean water, and penetrate directly into your eyes. This is dangerous because if your eyes are exposed to UV radiation for prolonged periods of time, your eye tissue can be destroyed. This can result in a number of eye diseases.
That’s why you should always be prepared with wearing sunglasses.

Tips to choosing & wearing sunglasses

1. Buy sunglasses with UV protection

Colour and darkness are not an indicator of UV protection. Sunglasses worn need to have 100% UVA & UVB protection to avoid eye disease. Our New TAVAT range of sunglasses have synthetic Melanin which uniquely block out harmful Blue light radiation.

2. Wear sunglasses even when cloudy

Even if our summer days are suffering from significant cloud cover you should always remember to wear your sunglasses as UV damage can still occur even when it’s cloudy.

3. Choose sunglasses with polarised lenses

Polarised sunglasses are great at reducing glare from reflective surfaces such as water or wet surfaces making them perfect for sporting activities or driving. Normal tinted or graduated sunglasses while offering UV protection will still leave you squinting and in some discomfort during these harsh conditions. That is why they are so useful in water sports, fishing, runners, cyclists , drivers for example. We have an extensive range of Polarised glasses to choose from to give you the best glare protection for the environment you will be wearing them.

4. Choose sunglasses with photochromic lenses

Sunglasses with photochromic or transition lenses darken on exposure to UV light making them great for both low and bright light conditions. A great example of this is cycling where you start of early in the morning in darkness or low light and ride through to full sun.
We can provide prescription lenses in your glasses with a photochromic coating, perfect for both indoor and outdoor use!

5. Buy prescription sunglasses
